Ifrah’s Story

Our New American Families (NAF) program works with parents of prenatal children to five-year-olds, giving them tools to set their children up for success through the evidence based curriculum Parents As Teachers. When our educators work with these families, they often work outside of their curriculum to help address the other obstacles they may be facing.

One program participant, Ifrah (name changed for privacy), got connected to the NAF program earlier this year after she moved to the Mankato area. “I started a new life here, and the YWCA started helping me with the foundation of it.” said Ifrah.

Ifrah told us that one of the most impactful things the YWCA helped with was furnishing her new home in our community saying “something I will never forget is how they have given me a dining table, and a bed. It has helped me start a new life here. They have helped me build a home here.”

We are so incredibly proud of Ifrah and our other NAF program participants for their tenacity and strength and we commit our team to helping continue to remove barriers and bring about a more just community for new American families.
